The family that hikes together ....

... hauls in 15 lbs of camera gear, hikes the same 0.5 mile route three times (due to an unforeseen, near mortal finger injury), and takes a family portrait.

Skipping through the bluebonnets

These are from a couple weeks ago when we went to Meridian State Park.  Not only were they skipping through the bluebonnets, but they were also chasing butterflies.  How very twee.

Hiking with Matthew

Some time ago I took Matthew to the Lake Waco Wetlands to go for a walk and check it out.  We had a blast. I explained what a bird blind was to him and he wanted some animals to show up right then and there. I then had to explain what being quiet was. He tried so hard, but could only manage about a minute or two.

That's right, Andrew.

Spring break

Every year Liz puts fun things in the Spring Break Grab Bag.  The boys get to pick from the bag and whatever comes out is what they do the next day.  They picked hiking for Tuesday and Liz took them to Meridian State Park.  After a long day of hiking, a picnic lunch, and swimming for the dog, they crashed out on the way home; which was probably the goal to begin with.

Brave Little Cub Scout

Andrew hiking around the legendary "Goatman" cave.  Every Scout at Camp Tahuaya knows about Goatman; the ancient creature created by the trampling of a mid-19th century herder by a pack of supernatural goats.  He was disturbed from his lair by a settler years later and has roamed the camp ever since, seeking revenge with a particular affinity and taste for Tiger Cubs.

I've been behind...

Here are some of the images I just pulled off of Andrew's camera.  They stretch back a couple months and include the Cub Scout Adventure Day, hiking at Enchanted Rock, eating at D's Mediterranean Delight, and naptime on the swingset.

Hiking through the vast Texas landscape

All the way from prairie grasses to bluebonnets to short, stumpy trees.
