First day of third grade.

Someone was just a touch nervous this year.

And Matthew was there, too; looking as cute as ever.

Andrew the Orator

Andrew had a school performance on "Being Green." No, not the Kermit version.  He even had a speaking role telling us not to water our lawn too frequently (preaching to the choir, buddy).  He did great!  Could you tell which child he was just by the footwear?

Oh what talent!

Thursday night Matthew had a talent show at school. His class sang a song I still don't know the title of. They had dance moves and everything. Matthew didn't dance so much but he sang his little heart out! And he got to stand next to his best friend Jaxson.

Unfortunately I forgot my camera and had to take these pictures with my phone. Note to self: put the camera back in the car.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Overheard this morning – first grade teacher to students
"Um, you need to stop talking.  The bell has rang." (note the rang with enough twang to shoot a bull’s eye at 100 paces)

If this is the best we can do, we deserve to be where we are right now.

It was all I could do not to call her out in front of the same kids and the words “Are you kidding me” did come out of my mouth, but I was too far away to be heard.  If you are teaching my kids, I am not asking too much that you should be able to speak the language you are imparting.

So the first term is over, and ...

I'm finally getting around to posting images from Andrew's first day at school.  He loves second grade and it's doing well for him.

Last day of First Grade

Andrew took his camera to school on the last day and had the chance to take photos of all of his friends.  They turned out great and I think he had a blast with it.

School performance

A little while ago, Andrew had a performance after school.  He told us nothing about it.  We only found out when he brought the announcement sheet home one afternoon.  Apparently, they had been working on it for some time.

The whole class did a recitation and a song about the different continents and then finished with a dramatic reading of a story about South American wildlife.  Andrew didn't get to do the reading, but did get to be Antarctica; though he did have to check on that.
