Matthew eats!

Today was the second day that Matthew ate cereal. I don't think he actually ingested too much, but he did better than his brother. We tried the rice cereal with Andrew at about this age and he hated it. He cried and spit it out, but he did love the sweet potatoes. Matthew just spit it out. Of course, he's been giving air-raspberries non-stop for about a week now.

Andrew reading to Matthew

Last week when Liz was getting the kids ready for school she placed Matthew in Andrew's bed for a few minutes while she went to get something. Andrew was supposed to be getting dressed, but when Liz returned, she found that he had crawled into bed with Matthew and was reading "Best Friend Ever" to him. How very cute.

Matthew Update

I feel bad for the guy, but I said I had to blog this and I will. Last night was a major milestone for the little guy. We were giving Matthew a bath and he was kind of fussy. He doesn't really care for his baths, especially the hair-washing part. Anyway, Liz and I were talking over the low-level whimpers from the bathtub when we noticed that they just ... stopped. Not a peep from the little, little one.

What could make a 4 month old ignore his surroundings and concentrate like that? Why, he found his penis, of course.

Now we should have held off on calling this a milestone until he repeated the effort. The Guinness Book Of World Records requires that before certifying their events, but we felt that this was too funny to pass up. The humor holds up even into the second boy in the family.

Matthew and Grammy

My mom came up to visit a couple weeks ago and I have just gotten around to posting a couple of the portraits I took.

I don't know if this worked

This was supposed to be an audio clip of Andrew reciting a poem from one of his books. I can't hear it at home, but I think I had it at work. I wanted to include the text of the poem for translation, but forgot that this was set to auto-publish. Whoops. Here's the text anyway:

A scrunch crunch munch
and a dig dig dig

A clang trang bang
with a jiggle jiggle jig

A whiz whirr twirr
and wheelie spin round

A ziff zoom zooz
going up coming down

A whipper zipper fast
and a drawl crawl slow

Join the beat of the
building's big show (though he does his best Ed Sullivan "big shoe" here)

Can they both look at the camera?

I wouldn't let him play in the sand.

Because it wasn't sand, it was a swamp. We forgot to cover the sandbox the other day. Of course it rained. So I made him leave it covered. He was OK with that, he just sat on top. With a goofy grin. And a football.

These Boppy Pillows (R) are great

We've had this Boppy pillow since Andrew was nursing and it is great. Not only does it help Liz nurse, but we also used it to prop the kids up before they could sit on their own. They are also great for tummy-time and slowly sinking into the carpet.

See, he's a happy boy

They aren't the greatest photos in the world, but they show you that he really does smile quite often.

Apologies

No blog would be complete without a bunch of entries apologizing for the lack of posts. Here's my excuse: our air conditioner died last weekend and it was unbearably hot in here for a couple days; the day it was repaired, my mom arrived to visit with Andrew and Matthew. So I was hot and then busy, that ok?

Anyway, since it was so hot in the house, Andrew spent a lot of time in the sprinkler last weekend. He's goofy in the sprinkler.
