We also camped in the backyard of the church. The boys had a great time and didn't seem to be bothered at all by the hum of I35 and Hwy 6 traffic that surrounded us, by the helicopter that flew overhead at about 1 am, or even by the cool temperatures that dipped into the low 40s. Of course, all of those things bothered me to some degree. The traffic and 'copter; not too much. The temps, well, since I forgot a sleeping bag for myself I got a little chilly sleeping outside.
Regardless, the boys had a blast. All they need is a campfire and s'mores and to them it's camping.
